Norris Watershed

Today, I was supposed to go to Cumberland trail, but it looks like it’s going to rain… It is a hard hike and there won’t be any good views, so we decided to go to the watershed.

今日はカンバーランドトレイルに行くはずだったのに雨が降りそう…　カンバーランドはとても難しいトレイルなので天候が良くなくては…　じゃ、使用がないので近場のウォーターシェッドへ。

Norris is a beautiful area. In some area, you can find more flowers than smoky mountain! I had never done fall walk in this area, so I was pumped.

ノーリスは場所によるとスモーキーよりお花が多いところがあったりするのでちょっとテンションがあがる
As soon as I started the trail, I started to see flowers!!! YES!

This trail is not beginner friendly. There is a great colored map that you can get at the Norris Dam Visitor Center or Downtown Norris, but there are not enough signs on the trail. Without compass, it is very hard to know where you are…
Fortunately, my friend knew the area well, also he is into “geocacher” (it’s like a treasure hunt with GPS) so we just started looking for the “spot” with GPS.

ノーリスのウォーターシェッドのトレイルはサインが少ない!　きれいな地図もダウンタウンノーリスかダムのビジターセンターでもらえるのですが、方位磁石なしではどこにいるのかなかなかわかりにくいです。

私は友達が良く知ってる場所なので安心。しかも”ジオキャッチャー”と言うゲーム(GPSで探す宝探しのような物)をするためGPSまで持っている友達もいて、結局そのゲームに参加することに。

We did find 3 spots!!! That was fun!
結構面白くってはまりそう。この辺りにも3箇所にお宝が!　3箇所目は秘密

Wildflower Hike @ UT Arboretum in Oak Ridge

This is my second year attending this guided fall wildflower hike. I loved it so much last year, so I had to go back! Ms. Kris is the teacher who takes us to the hike every year. She teaches young children, so even I can easily understand and learn a lot about the flowers. If your children are interested in plants, you should definitely try her hike! Her website http://www.easttennesseewildflowers.com/is also excellent. Her web site has all the wild flowers there are in Tennessee! I use it all the time!

今年も参加してきました。クリス先生は子供に科学を教えている方なので話がうまく、私でもわかるように丁寧に説明してくれるので、大人から子供まで楽しく参加できます。興味のある方は是非来年参加してください。先生の野草のサイトもテネシーで見れるほとんどのものが載っていてよく見せてもらっています。
